Account Registration Help
Use the "Previous - Next" buttons at the bottom of the screen to move through the application. The tabs on the left show you where you are in completing your application.
You must answer the questions on all screens before submitting your application. Once you have answered all questions, click the "Submit" button in the lower right corner to send your application to WCB-Alberta (WCB). All fields marked by "*" are mandatory.
We need additional information about your business to determine your qualification for a WCB employer account.
A "worker" is a person who enters into or works under a contract of service or apprenticeship, written or oral, express or implied, whether by way of manual labour or otherwise, or is considered by the WCB to be a worker. For the purposes of this question, a "contractor" or "subcontractor" is an individual, proprietorship or partnership hired by a principal to perform work or services.
If you have not yet begun hiring workers and are not requesting personal coverage, you should delay your request for a WCB-Alberta account until your workers' first start date. WCB-Alberta will not future-date the start of your workers' compensation coverage. Some industries are exempt from coverage, for more information click here.
If your organization hires workers or subcontractors, please estimate the number of workers or subcontractors (full- and part-time) who work during a normal week and their total gross worker earnings (including benefits) for the current calendar year, up to the maximum assessable earnings limit per worker. Do not include the earnings of employees of other incorporated companies or companies with their own Alberta workers' compensation coverage.
For the "start date of first worker", enter the date on which you first began employing workers. The start date cannot be in the future.
For more information about what earnings to report, click here.
If you are an employer in both Alberta and other Canadian Jurisdictions and part of those earnings are being reported to a WCB in another Canadian jurisdiction, enter only the earnings that pertain to Alberta operations. The Alberta earnings should also include earnings for Alberta based workers working outside of any Canadian jurisdiction. For more information about reporting earnings between Alberta and other Canadian jurisdictions, click here.
"Source deductions" are income tax deductions made prior to issuing a paycheque.
Does your organization normally hire workers for only part of the calendar year? A "seasonal" operation is one that typically hires workers for only part of each year, and employs no workers over the other months.
Ownership of heavy equipment or trucks can affect your qualification for a WCB employer account. List the make, model and serial number of equipment owned by your organization, and provide the name of the registered owner.
If you own or lease other equipment or material assets, please provide a description here. List only assets of significant value.
If your organization's workers do any work outside of Alberta, please list the locations. If the work is not particular to a site (for instance, interprovincial trucking), provide an explanation here.
For more information about reporting earnings split between provinces, click here.
When operating under a contract, does your organization supply a substantial proportion of the materials used on the job? If it does, does it invoice the principal for the value of materials used? Does it keep an inventory of the materials for use in the future?
Is your organization operating as a franchise or chain outlet? If so, please provide the name of the parent organization and indicate whether or not you paid a price to purchase the business.
Answer "yes" if the products or services of your organization are provided exclusively to homeowners, or "no" if you sell to other consumers or businesses.
Answer "yes" only if you pay to advertise on television, radio, newspapers, magazines, internet, or some other mass medium. Your description should give an indication of the type of medium carrying your advertising.
Answer "yes" if your organization has a business bank account separate from your personal bank account.
If you have a separate bank account for your business, provide the name of the bank or financial institution here. If instead you use your personal account for business, enter the name of the bank or financial institution where your personal account is kept.
Provide the location of the bank or financial institution used for your business, whether you use a personal bank account or a separate business account.
The "location" can be whatever location details you have readily available (municipality or complete address).
Answer "yes" if your organization carries liability insurance, other than personal liability insurance.
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requires that businesses collecting the Goods and Services Tax have a 15-character account number.
The first 9 digits of the GST number are numeric and constitute the "CRA Registration Number". Digits 10 and 11 are the program identifier ("RT" in the case of the Goods and Services Tax program). The last 4 digits make up the "Account Reference Number", and are also numeric.
Example:
Registration number | Account identifier | |||||||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | R | T | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 |
