Account Registration Help
Before submitting your completed application you must either pre-authorize payment by bank withdrawal, credit card, Visa Debit or by Debit MasterCard payment of minimum premium, or decline pre-authorization. After choosing one of these options and agreeing to the "Declaration of Accuracy" at the bottom of the page, press the button to send your application to Workers' Compensation Board - Alberta.
The Workers' Compensation Board - Alberta will not grant clearances on your new account until payment of the minimum premium amount has been processed or you have authorized automatic bank withdrawal of your premiums. To ensure immediate eligibility for clearances on your new account, you can pre-authorize payment before submitting your application.
Pre-authorized payments will not be processed unless your application for WCB-Alberta coverage is approved.
For information on other payment methods, click here.
If you sign up for pre-authorized debit, your payments are automatically withdrawn from your bank account on the invoice due date or next business day.
For pre-authorized debit, WCB-Alberta requires the number of a valid bank account with sufficient funds to cover the cost of your WCB-Alberta premiums. Normally, the bank account number can be found on the cheques issued for that account (exclude the first three digits of the cheque number, as in the illustration).
When you choose the convenience of pre-authorized debit, not only do you immediately become eligible for clearances, but you also qualify for monthly installments on your WCB-Alberta premiums upon request. Pre-authorized debit is a precondition to qualifying for monthly installments.
Indicate whether you would prefer monthly installments by selecting 'Yes' on the monthly installment radio button.
If you choose not to pay via monthly installments, your premiums will be due 30 days after you are granted an account.
Provide a valid credit card, Visa Debit or Debit MasterCard number so that your first payment can be pre-authorized. If you are using Visa Debit or Debit MasterCard, funds will be withdrawn immediately. Your pre-authorized credit card payment will not be processed unless your application is approved.
You cannot make changes to the pre-authorized payment amount, which is set to the WCB minimum premium amount for the current year.
If you would like to decline the pre-authorization payment, you must agree to the "decline pre-authorization" check box before submitting your application. You will be invoiced once your application is approved for coverage and eligible to receive clearances upon payment of your invoice.
Workers' Compensation Board - Alberta does not store your personal credit card information and cannot use it for additional payments or any other purpose.
If you opt to forego pre-authorized debit, credit card, Visa Debit or Debit MasterCard pre-authorization, your account will not be eligible for clearances until payment of minimum premium has been processed by the WCB. Upon determination of eligibility, you will be invoiced for your first payment.

Your annual workers' compensation premium is calculated as assessable earnings (including both worker assessable earnings and personal coverage) for the year, divided by 100 and multiplied by the premium rate. Minimum annual premium is $200.
You can find a list of current WCB-Alberta premium rates here.

(a) | personal coverage | $30,000 |
(b) | worker assessable earnings | $0 |
(capped by per worker maximum earnings) | ||
(c) | total assessable earnings (a+b) | $30,000 |
(d) | current year rate (per $100 of earnings) | $1.00 |
(e) | premium (c×d/100) | $300.00 |

(d) | current year rate (per $100 of earnings) | $2.00 |
